Difference between FFC and FPC

- Mar 10, 2020-

FFC (Flexible Flat Cable) is a new type of data cable made of PET insulation material and extremely thin tinned flat copper wire. It is laminated by high-tech automated equipment production line. It has soft, flexible bending and thickness. Thin, small size, simple connection, easy disassembly, easy to solve electromagnetic shielding (EMI) and other advantages.

Collapse the technical parameters of this paragraph

Number of conductors N: the number of copper conductors in the cable;

Pitch P: the distance between the centerlines of two adjacent conductors;

Margin M: The distance from the outermost conductor centerline to the edge of the cable:

Full pitch TP: The distance between the centerlines of the two outermost conductors, TP = P * (N-1);

Total width W: the distance between the two edges of the cable, W = P * (N + 1);

Total length TL: distance between two ends of the cable;

Insertion thickness TT: thickness of two connecting ends of the cable;

FPC (Flexible Printed Circuit board translated into Chinese is: Flexible printed circuit board, in general, a PCB made of flexible materials (materials that can be folded and bent)) is used to connect the LCD display to the driving circuit (PCB) At present, 0.5mm pitch products are mainly used, and 0.3mm pitch products have also been widely used.

Copper foil substrate (Copper Film)

Copper foil: Basically divided into electrolytic copper and rolled copper. Common thicknesses are 1oz 1 / 2oz and 1/3 oz

Substrate film: common thicknesses are 1mil and 1 / 2mil.

Glue (adhesive): thickness depends on customer requirements.

Cover Film

Cover film protective film: for surface insulation. Common thicknesses are 1mil and 1 / 2mil.

Glue (adhesive): thickness depends on customer requirements.

Release paper: Avoid the adhesion of foreign matter to the adhesive before pressing; easy to operate.

Reinforcing board: Reinforcing the mechanical strength of FPC, it is convenient for surface mounting operation. Common thickness is 3mil to 9mil.

Glue (adhesive): thickness depends on customer requirements.

Release paper: Avoid the adhesion of foreign matter to the adhesive before pressing.

EMI: electromagnetic shielding film, to protect the circuit inside the circuit board from outside (strong electromagnetic area or susceptible to interference) interference.

The main differences between FFC and FPC

From the point of view of their manufacturing, the way they formed the line is different ::

 1 FPC is a flexible circuit board with different single-sided, double-sided, and multi-layer structures obtained by processing FCCL (flexible copper-clad foil) by chemical etching.

2 FFC is a flat copper foil sandwiched between the upper and lower layers of insulating foil.The finished product is simpler and thicker.
