In other words, it will take more than 4 years for 5G handset shipments to exceed 4G handsets. Canalys predicts that during this period, the compound annual growth rate of 5G mobile phone shipments will reach 179.9%. Overall, by 2023 (more than four years in total), the global 5G mobile phone shipments will total 1.9 billion.

In 2023, 5G mobile phone shipments in Greater China will account for 34.0% of global shipments. It is followed by North America and Asia Pacific, with 18.8% and 17.4%, respectively.

The report pointed out that in 2020, 17.5% of China's smartphones (shipments) support the 5G standard, and it will increase to 62.7% in 2023. Canalys said that thanks to the government's technological route and the financial strength of operators, 5G smartphones will rapidly spread in China.
